Summoner

This was the first game that I ever picked up for the PS2, and I was just blown away. The graphics are incredible (after having just played Chrono Cross) and the music is to die for. But let's sink our teeth into the meat of this game, shall we?

The plot of the game starts out fairly simple, and actually remains that way for quite some time. You're a teenager with a "special mark" - the mark of the Summoner! But your town is in flames and you're being hunted, so you must flee. And so it goes. But after a good deal of questing here and there, the story begins to deviate from the norms. I won't tell you how... just that you should grab ahold of your controller and hold on. ^_^

The difficulty of the game is interesting. At some points it can be quite difficult, and at other points it can be a cinch.... And the dungeons, at the beginning, always seem quite long... yet they're designed in such a fashion that when you reach the end you feel the length was just right. Not too long, not too hard... just on par with your playing abilities.

The music, composed by both Scott Lee (Scott if you're ever reading this, you may remember me as Ajora in the Summoner forums... I'm still with you buddy!) and Wally Shaw. The music the two composed (though not quite together... Scott left in the middle) is just amazing. I'm going to see about 1) getting some music from it up to RPGN and 2) ripping the rest myself.

One of the few downsides is the world map. It has no landmarks. You're going to spend some time walking around the place trying to find your next location. You usually have the general direction (i.e, "head north east for Iona!"wink but it still takes a bit and often a leap of faith to keep walking forward and not turn back.

Another *small* down point is the loading times. They get better later in the game when the levels get more expansive and you spend more time in them, but at the beginning when you're site hopping in Lenele they seem like a big pain. All I can, it's a small price to pay. ^_~

All in all, this is one of the top PS2 games out there. I strongly urge everyone to play it and love the music.

Now.
