The games we play, the choices we make

Since Locke posted yesterday about that game with dumb ads that he has been playing lately, I figured I'd do the same! I can't let that guy outdo me. So, I've been playing Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins. I still am, in fact, playing both of them.

If you haven't been following the gaming news, Borderlands is a FPS RPG hybrid thing, with a pretty straightforward and working FPS side (so, opposite of Fallout 3), with some RPG elements painted on top of it. Like, leveling up, passive skills that you gain with your levels, active skills and loot. It's mostly advertised as a 4 person co-op game, but it plays just fine as a single player game as well, but will obviously be more fun with more people. I've been playing it on PC with my brother, and man, that game is golden. It's a complete package of awesomeness. The graphic style probably drives some people away from it, but I love it. The music in it is superb as well, and I also have to mention the sound direction in general. This game has possibly the best death screams I've ever heard. Top that with tight controls and enjoyable overall gameplay, and you've got a Borderlands. Yeah, I love the game. Also, no article about Borderlands can go without a mention of the guns. That game has a lot of guns. Basically, it's all procedurally generated out of certain variables, and what that basically means is that it's not very likely that you would find two identical guns in that game. Some guns also have elemental damage (more variables), you know, to put people on fire, melt them away or just plain explode them into bits and pieces.

As for Dragon Age, remember a few weeks ago when I promised that I'd post news if I managed to make a normal looking character in Dragon Age: Origins? Well, here I am doing just that. I didn't try to go crazy with the editor, but the way it handles I get the feeling that it might be possible, even for me, to make a dude in it that would resemble me. With time and patience. Anyways, I made this lady in the creator and have since started playing the game, rogue as my class. It seems like a pretty nice game. It's impossible to say how it holds up the longer I play, because the game is long. So far, it's been exactly what I expected. In a way it reminds me of a pretty standard MMORPG, without the MMO part. So, classic PC RPG?. I'm not exactly an authority at such things, but you can even pull the camera all the way up and play it like Baldur's Gate or Diablo (I've never actually played either of those, only seen screenshots).

Here are the box-arts for both of the games. In case you are curious about such things. They are both pretty badass. I'm too lazy to get any neat screenshots right now, and don't really feel like stealing screens from other sites either, so you are just going to have to live without.
